TREE GROWING AND MONITORING

                                 TREE GROWING AND MONITORING
March 23-24, 2018
Mantukoy, Concepcion, Misamis Occidental

This activity is consonance to EsP 10 Module 11-“Ang Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan” with performance standard “Nakakagawa ng mga angkop na kilos upang maipamalas ang pangangalaga sa kaliksan”.

The activity was completed last March 23-24, 2018 at Brgy. Mantukoy, Concepcion, Misamis Occidental where our First Tree Planting began last March 17-18, 2017. The activity was participated by Grades 7,8 and 11 of Concepcion National High School. I also invited some of my students from Holy Rosary Academy of Sapang Dalaga, Inc. and a colleague of mine- Fretzel Dongon who is teaching at Sinaad Elementary School at Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental.

We started our hiking departure at exactly 4:30PM, Friday, March 23 to Brgy. Mantukoy but we made a short stop at Brgy. Capule to pick up Falcata seedlings at Lumayog’s Residence then we continued our journey. We arrived at our destination at exactly 6:00PM and made our courtesy call to the Brgy. Captain and barangay settlers and did a quick rest after.
The participants were group accordingly so as to participate in each chore when we arrive. So, by the time we arrived, everybody is informed of their chores and we ate our dinner at around 7:30 PM.

We made a small discussion after dinner for tomorrow’s activity- the tree growing and monitoring. I discussed all about the purpose of our activity. And the following are told to them:
·         To made actual look on each plant status and situation ,
·         Monitor planted trees after our first planting activity,
·         To clean plant surroundings in order for them to grow taller and grasp nutrients form the soil and sun.
·         Re-plant the seedling that was unsuccessful during the transition period
After our short discussion, I introduced each of the participants and we did a small game for everybody’s acknowledgment.  Everybody enjoyed it and everybody is happy knowing everybody. The lights are turned off at exactly 10:00 PM.
On the next day, the group woke up at around 4:00 AM to prepare for our breakfast and lunch altogether. After breakfast, I regrouped them into two (2) groups and parted into areas where we have planted. On the first area, everybody is happy to see the Falcatta grow taller than a person. It is also observed that a great number of Falcatta are growing in good condition. On the other hand, the second area is a bit frustrating as we see it has full of weeds that Falcatta trees are having hard to recognize and it is also unable to grow tall because it has been shadowed by the tall grasses and a number of Falcatta has died either due to weeds, soil condition, and weather condition. I also saw that a cattle animals are being grazed near the plants.
So, what we did was to re-plant the ones who did not survived and cleaned the weeds that sorrounds the plants and also informed the settlers to put a tree guard to shoo cattle away and to prevent them from grazing it.
After our activity, we hurried back to Primary School to pack our lunch fro we will make a bath at Peryang Falls just a distance from the school.
We made a bath and swam at the falls from time 1:00-2:30PM and head back to school to necessary cleaning.
We finished the general cleaning at around 3:00PM and we head back to Poblacion at exactly 3:00 PM and bade goodbye and thank you to the settlers.
We arrived at Concepcion National High School at exactly 5:00 PM.
I personally wanted to thank the person who helped me in making this activity successful especially to the kind and down-hearted Brgy. Captain, the Brgy. Settlers, the School Principal and Teachers of Mantukoy Primary School and to my students who willingly donate their time and effort to this purposeful activity. I also want to thank our dear God for blessing us a good weather, condition and moments to treasure.
I am praying that with this activity everybody’s concern towards environment will be awaken.
