                          OFF CAMPUS INTENSIVE FUTSAL TRAINING

            October 15-20, 2017

          Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental

This activity was intended for the upcoming Provincial Meet. This activity aims to: (1) train athletes for Provincial Meet, (2) equip athletes with the knowledge, skills and game rules, (3) master the athletes for tournament proper.

Being a coach is a herculean job.  Someone has to stand up to fight with the team and somehow need to possess “superpower” to be able to make it through in order to win the game.

Having this in mind, I immediately communicated with my head teacher and he delightedly permit me. Also, I made communication to the athlete’s parents to allow them to undergo 5-day training in Sapang Dalaga for which they undoubtedly agree.

We, traveled from Concepcion to Sapang Dalaga at exactly 4:30PM on October 15, 2017 and made it to our home past 5:00PM. I housed my athletes and give them free meals as a credit to their hard work for the training period.

The training started last October 15 and will last for five (5) days that will end on October 20. Their training includes footwork for leg and power and several tune-up games with different Sapang Dalaga Futsal and Football teams to prepare them for the Provincial Meet.  The training was facilitated with my brother Mharty Eulogio S. Guillena who is teaching in Holy Rosary Academy of Sapang Dalaga, Inc. which has a Futsal and Football team of his own.

The athletes did their best in every drills they did. My brother has no problem facilitating them, he even envies me for having athletes like them whose attitude towards training is beyond exceptional. With these, he educated us with the attacking and defending techniques best applicable to my team for the tournament proper.

Skipped to the tournament proper, I saw the athlete’s determination to win. Their first game versus Clarin was so close that nearly win it. They scored 2-3 in favor of Clarin. The game was intense because the team made a tie with their competitor just before time ends yet on the last minute because their team has National Player and Regional player, their team managed to score another goal just seconds before the time.

With their second game versus Plaridel, game is concluded even before it started because we are matched with a high-calibered team. The team was a defending champion for about 3 years since Futsal event started on the list of events for School’s District Meet. Yet, the team managed to combat them with the knowledge they learned during their 5-day training. 

Their last game was with Jimenez. It is exciting for we I wanted a win and they also. I motivated them and they followed my plans for the game. The game’s first half is a kind of shocking and frustrating because their opponent scored 2 while we still have nothing. During the time-out I encouraged them to pursue and continue and with extra caution and to try to make attack them and make a goal.

The second half started just after it. I saw my team’s struggle to attack, defend our post and hit a goal but it was just the beginning. Just as the game heats up, my team makes a goal and we scored 1-2 and minutes after that surprisingly they hit another goal which made us 2-2, we made a tie! Everyone is tensed and I began to pray that He may grant us another goal to help us win the game. Opponents team deliberately changed their game strategy to help them win the game but that was favorably made us advantage for we anticipated it. With it, just minutes before the time, we hit a goal. It was unbelievable especially we have only five (5) days of training compared to them which was trained for five (5) months. I was so glad that they listened to me.

Everybody is teary-eyed as they got out of the playing area. I hugged them tight and congratulated them for their hard work and perseverance.

Surprisingly, the Sports Tournament Officials are impressed of the team’s performance knowing that they only have 5-day training. He told us to continue the training and that I should be proud of my team for they have a very good attitude towards game and our opponents.

I thanked him for telling me his observations and this inspires me and my team to continue what we have started.

In our case, winning the game is part of hard work and dedication. We win because everybody believed that we can and everyone believed each other- and that for me is the true meaning of winning.
