Binahon Agroforestry Farm in Bukidnon: Sustainable Farming Model Since 1992

Binahon Agroforestry Farm: A Pioneer of Sustainable Farming in Bukidnon

Introduction

Hidden in the cool highlands of Lantapan, a remarkable place shows how farming and nature can thrive together. Binahon Agroforestry Farm (BAFF) is more than just farmland—it is a living example of how agriculture and environmental conservation can work hand in hand.

Established in 1992, BAFF has grown into one of the most respected agroforestry farms in Bukidnon. Over the years, it has attracted students, farmers, researchers, and eco-tourists who are eager to learn about sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and climate-resilient farming.

The farm continues to inspire communities by demonstrating that farming can be productive while also protecting the environment.

The Story Behind Binahon Agroforestry Farm

Binahon Agroforestry Farm began as a simple initiative to practice agroforestry, a farming system that integrates trees, crops, livestock, and ecological conservation in a single sustainable landscape.

Instead of clearing forests to plant crops, BAFF promotes growing crops alongside trees, helping restore soil fertility, prevent soil erosion, and maintain biodiversity.

Through the years, the farm evolved into a learning center for organic and ecological farming, becoming a training ground for farmers not only from Bukidnon but from different parts of the Philippines.

Today, BAFF stands as a strong model for climate-resilient agriculture and environmental stewardship.

A Memorable Visit by Athletics Trainers from Misamis Occidental

During our preparation journey for the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association Meet (NMRAA) 2026, a group of athletics trainers from Misamis Occidental had the opportunity to visit the inspiring Binahon Agroforestry Farm.

The visit served as a refreshing break from our busy schedules as we prepared athletes for regional competition. More importantly, it became a meaningful learning experience that allowed us to appreciate sustainability, environmental awareness, and the beauty of nature.

Representing the athletics training team were Roxan Atoz, Sharon Mae Madarimot, Glaiza Salcedo, Emelita Tabal, and Mary Grace Buyog.

Learning from Nature

Although our main focus is developing athletes for regional competitions, our visit to the farm reminded us that the same values we teach in sports—discipline, patience, and consistency—are also essential in sustainable farming.

Walking through the farm paths, we observed how trees, crops, and plants coexist naturally through agroforestry practices.

The peaceful surroundings, fresh mountain air, and green landscapes made the experience both relaxing and inspiring.

For educators and trainers like us, it was also a reminder that learning can happen anywhere—not only in classrooms or training fields but also in places where people live and work closely with nature.

---

Strengthening Camaraderie Among Trainers

Our visit also became a valuable bonding moment for the trainers from Misamis Occidental. Away from the athletics track, we had the opportunity to share experiences, exchange ideas, and strengthen our teamwork.

These shared moments help build stronger connections among coaches and trainers who are working toward the same goal—developing young athletes who will represent their schools and provinces with pride.

A Journey Worth Remembering

Our visit to Binahon Agroforestry Farm will always remain a memorable part of our preparation for the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association Meet 2026.

As we returned to Misamis Occidental, we carried with us not only the excitement of preparing our athletes but also the inspiration we gained from witnessing how dedication and care can create something meaningful—whether in farming, coaching, or life.

Just like nurturing crops in an agroforestry farm, developing athletes requires time, patience, guidance, and a supportive environment.

And sometimes, the best lessons are learned in the quiet beauty of nature.
